| The Etruscan bronzes |
| Paolo Simoncini has inherited from his father a century's long history of bronze crafting and making. Volterra, where his workshop is located, is one of the 12 federated towns of the Etruscan nation, over 2000 years ago, and has always been renown for the art of bronze making, especially for the production of those stretched figures that inspired so many artists in all times, including Giacometti in the more recent ones. Paolo is the heir of an old age craft, his family's roots are to be found in the Renaissance Florence, back to Francesco Simoncini ( Parma 1686- Florence 1753). The Simoncinis were known for their reputation of metal sculpting and metal foundry. | |||||||||||||||||

Maybe the most famous Tuscan artifact.
The stretched figure that inspired Giacometti and was named Shadow of

It was found in 1870 by
a farmer that was working the soil in the rounding

someone recognized it as a masterpiece of the Etruscan art
